Mission: american prisons
The Need
With almost 3 million Americans in prisons throughout the country there is a great need for both Volunteer Chaplains and Institutional Chaplains. What is desperately lacking in the prison system are enough good programs for the inmates that teach, train, and encourage these inmates to a New Life in Christ. Planting Prison Churches which include: Bible Study Groups, Recovery Programs, Re-entry Programs, and Biblical Literacy are just a few of the many programs that inmates need.
Hungry ~ Thirsty Inmates
Most who are in prison today, see their need to be completely different in character. They must change or be doomed to a life of going in and out of prison -- this is called 'recidivism'. It is bad for the individual, bad for their families, and ultimately bad for society itself. Recidivism must be stopped. It can be stopped, if we as Christians can do what the Lord Jesus told us to do: to go visit and encourage those in prison. (Read Matthew 25).
Chaplains of Compassion
With Christ's Church Fellowship one can become a Chaplain of Compassion and earn a Certificate in Ministry.
In order to become a Chaplain, one must follow the procedure outlined to become an Ordained Minister.
Institutional Chaplains
Some find it their calling to work full-time within the Prison system.
Institutional Chaplains must go through the following procedure:
1. Become a Fully Ordained Minister with CCFI.
2. Get an Endorsement with the Coalition of Spirit-Filled Churches www.spirit-filled.org of which CCFI is an affiliate.
3. Finish a Master's in Divinity with an accredited School. Some suggestions are: Liberty University www.liberty.edu; Luther Rice University www.lutherrice.edu. These are all online and fully accredited and recognized by the CHEA.
Misssion: American Prisons is in its infancy. However, much work is needed to be done, and many workers for the Lord are needed!
